While the term bungalow is used generously around Ubud's accommodation, for our purposes they will be rental homes with at least a bedroom, bathroom, and small kitchen. Most share property with other bungalows in a private garden area, and other amenities may include swimming pool, stunning views, or central locations. Less expensive than villas and hotels, this is a great solution for the budget traveler. Home-stays were originally termed to refer to accommodation within a Balinese home. While that rule still applies today, it is best described as a small, comfortable, and extremely affordable room within the center of Ubud. You will get a bedroom, bathroom, and usually breakfast in the morning prepared by the women of the household. It is not only a great insight into Balinese living, but easy on the pocketbook too.

What to expect
Price range of bungalows can usually be divided into these two categories. Have a look at what you can expect for your money.
| Price range (per night) | What to expect |
|---|---|
USD $10 - $20Basic standard |
Large selection of home-stays, guesthouses or inexpensive bungalows. Expect a small, plain room with a bed, bed stand, fan, closet, cold shower in varying standards of freshness, simple or even shared bathroom. Breakfasts are usually included. Don't expect Wifi, swimming pool, or a view, though some may be surrounded by rice fields. Most guesthouses occupy an area within a Balinese compound, which may be a great way to learn more about local culture. |
USD $20 - $30Good standard |
For just a little bit more you can get a surprisingly good place to stay. Accommodation within this range is usually a cottage, small house or bungalow with a nicely decorated room, simple bathroom, fan hot and cold shower and sometimes even a swimming pool. Most places within this category have a rice field or river view. Breakfast is included. Wifi is rare. |
